FLEX Online School is the K-12 online school for the Beaverton School District. Students attend live instruction sessions online each day taught by certified, Beaverton teachers and have the flexibility to adjust to their schedule and family needs. 

Clubs

Students can join a variety of student-led or teacher-guided clubs, connecting them to their peers around the District. Visit the Clubs and Groups page for more information.

IN PERSON MEETUPS

Teachers periodically hold optional in-person meetups for students at our school location in classrooms and outside, and at local parks, libraries, and the zoo. 

Family Connection

Family connection and partnership is a key part of school success. We'll provide ways for families to connect with one another both digitally and in person. FLEX Online School will host in-person (when safe) and video-conferencing events that allow families to build school community and relationships. The Family Teacher Organization (FTO) is a volunteer-based organization that provides resources, programs, and support to FLEX Online students, teachers, and staff. Athletics

Students attending FLEX Online School in grades 9-12 have the opportunity to play sports at their neighborhood high school. Visit the Athletic Registration page for more information.

Beaverton Student Advisory Committee

High school students can apply to be a school representative on the Beaverton Student Advisory Committee. 
The Beaverton Student Advisory Committee (BSAC) will serve as one connection for students to be informed and have their voices heard within our District. A school board liaison and the superintendent (or designee) will support the student advisory committee work.

The Oregon Department of Education has updated their attendance guidance for online and remote learning students. Please see how this affects attendance for FLEX Online School below. 

Elementary Attendance 

Elementary students attend live Zoom sessions each school day. If your student cannot make their live Zoom class sessions, be sure to have a two-way interaction/communication with the teacher. 

Secondary Attendance 

There are three ways to show attendance at FLEX for 6-12 grade students:

1. Live, camera-on Zoom during class (strongly preferred)
2. Synchronous audio and/or video interaction with each teacher the day class happens
3. Submit a discussion post, assignment, quiz, test or other meaningful asynchronous participation 

IMPORTANT - If a student misses a live Zoom class session during the day, the district system will make an automated attendance call home after 3:00pm. FLEX students often work after school hours. If a student submits something to class by 11:59pm, the teacher will remove the absence the next day.

If you receive an attendance notification, please login to ParentVUE or StudentVUE and then click “Attendance” and then the red X on the date to see the specific class absence.

No. CURRENT residency in the Beaverton School District is required for FLEX enrollment. We cannot accept enrollments of students residing, even temporarily, outside of BSD boundaries in the Beaverton, Oregon area. Residency, for the purposes of this discussion means where the student’s head hits the pillow – where they physically reside.

For vacations and travel, we follow the same policies as the in-person schools. Absences and travel outside the country for more than 10 consecutive school days will result in withdrawal. If your student is traveling outside the country for 10 or less school days, please contact us for temporary access.

There is no cost to attend FLEX Online School. The district provides a device and all instructional materials needed at no cost for each student. These devices and materials will be available for pickup at our school's physical location.

Similar to other BSD schools, core courses include language arts, math, science, and social studies. Electives are offered at appropriate grade levels. For elementary students PE, Art and Spanish will be offered. Secondary offerings can be viewed on the Academic Planning Guide page.

Special Education
FLEX Online School offers special education services in a Resource Room setting. FLEX does not currently have specialized programs. If your child is in a specialized program, FLEX may not be able to provide your student with a free appropriate public education (FAPE). If your student is placed in a specialized program, and you enroll your student in FLEX, your student's IEP team will need to meet to determine if your student's needs can be met with a Resource Room level of support. If your student cannot be served in a Resource Room setting, then the IEP team may determine that your student is not able to attend FLEX.

English Language Learners
FLEX Online School offers all English Language Development services virtually.  Courses are available at the different language proficiency levels: newcomer, emerging and progressing. It's strongly recommended that a school’s comprehensive student team review whether the student is able to access the language services remotely. Additional language support may be needed, especially for newcomers and students at the emerging level.

TAG
FLEX Online School works for students who need extra time or assistance to master a subject, as well as those who learn quickly. FLEX Online School is also designed to meet the needs of students identified as Talented and Gifted (TAG). 

IB & SUMMA
FLEX Online School does not offer SUMMA or IB classes. For students who wish to participate in programs such as SUMMA or IB, they should remain enrolled in the school that offers those programs.  

Yes, FLEX Online School complies with every other school in the Beaverton School District regarding state requirements for immunizations. 

Students who are not up-to-date or exempted (medical/non-medical) from immunizations will be excluded from instruction by Exclusion Day in February.

According to the Oregon Immunization Law Handbook:

"All schools providing any part of pre-kindergarten through 12th grade education must follow Oregon’s immunization laws. No schools are exempt. Examples of schools include (but are not limited to): Public schools, Private schools, Immersion schools, Charter schools, Online schools, Home-based schools, Oregon Youth Authority (OYA) sites, English language learner (ELL) programs, Juvenile detention facilities that have students for 30 days or more, and Treatment facilities that provide education services."

For K–8 students, parents, guardians and even some grandparents act as guides who serve as face-to-face learning coaches, responsible for the students' day-to-day activities. Suggested weekly lesson plans are provided. The lesson plans can vary to accommodate students' pace and abilities. 

In the high school program, learning coaches still play an important supportive role in helping students stay on task and ensure completion of their assignments. However, high school students are expected to manage their own time and academic schedule.

FLEX Online School has earned accreditation by Cognia™, a nonprofit organization that provides quality assurance for schools, school districts and education service providers.

Cognia, formerly AdvancED, nationally recognizes districts that meet rigorous standards focused on productive learning environments, equitable resource allocation that meets the needs of learners, and effective leadership. Earning accreditation from the Cognia Global Accreditation Commission means that the school is accredited, and that FLEX Online School is recognized across the nation as a school that meets Cognia Standards of Quality and maintains a commitment to continuous improvement.

FLEX Online School is also NCAA approved and an AP Level 2 school. 

For the 2024-2025 school year all of Beaverton School District's 53 school sites will provide students with free breakfast and lunch each day through the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP). 

FLEX students have access to free breakfast and lunch at the Capital Center Campus, only when working on site, grades 6-12 only.
